Frequently Asked Questions
What is TDEE?+
Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is the total calories you burn per day — BMR plus activity, digestion (TEF), and non-exercise movement. Source: Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
How is TDEE calculated?+
TDEE multiplies your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) by an activity factor between 1.2 (sedentary) and 1.9 (extremely active). This estimate typically falls within ±10–15 % of measured values.
Which activity factor fits me?+
1.2 sedentary; 1.375 lightly active (1–3 workouts/week); 1.55 moderate (3–5×); 1.725 very active (6–7×); 1.9 extremely active (twice-daily training or physical job).
How big a deficit should I use to lose weight?+
A moderate 300–500 kcal/day deficit yields roughly 0.3–0.5 kg of fat loss per week. Larger deficits risk muscle loss and metabolic adaptation.
How accurate is the estimate?+
TDEE calculators provide a starting point, not a measurement. Adjust after 2–3 weeks based on actual weight trend.
Does my TDEE change while dieting?+
Yes. As body weight drops, energy expenditure declines too. Recalculate every 3–4 kg of weight change for accuracy.
